Sammy D. is my writing moniker. Why Sammy D? Read about it here.
I live in small town west of Denver, nestled next to the foothills.
I am:
An aspiring writer/blogger at www.bemuzin.com
A lifelong bookworm and curious introvert
An avid researcher (you name it; I’ve probably googled it)
A lifelong bicyclist (with more than one death-defying crash)
A novice golfer (who chooses not to keep score)
A Chess dilettante (I have a how-to book and a chess board…)
A nature lover and gardener
A pickleball beginner (who knows to Stay Out of the Kitchen )
I love my husband, my family and, most of all, puttering alone with my thoughts.
I am interested in viewing a variety of blogs: gardens, travel, art and musings from your minds.
I am a Boomer with humor; I’d like to share it with you. My topics vary with my mood and my ability to transfer the whirls and swirls in my head to the posts that you read. I look forward to getting to know you, and learning from you.
I am especially grateful to members of our military branches and public safety agencies – past, present and future. You and your families give so generously to your fellow citizens, and I am forever humbled by your service.

Thanks for visiting my blog and liking my post. It is awesome meeting you too. All the best and yes, let us keep on with the fitness the best we can. Have a great day. Renee 🙂
Hi Sammy! I nominated bemuzin for the Liebster award. Check out my blog for the questions and your fellow nominees if you choose to accept the award (I hope you do!) =)
I lived in Denver for 35 years and spent all summer camping in the high country. Many fond memories of there. Glad to see another introverted baby boomer, although I suspect there are a lot of us quiet folk on the internet. Thanks for the shout out to the military. As a Vietnam vet, I appreciate that.
Hey Chris – I will email you in a few days (got doc appts and grandkids next couple of days). Want to followup on your comments. Good to hear from you.
it was an honour to be here ,Regards , EM
Hi Sammy! I was delighted to find your comment on my blog this morning! Blogging is such great fun, I dare say it is a life-changing experience. You will love the A-Z, it is indeed a challenge to keep up with by the end, but so much fun, and a great way to meet new bloggers. I applaud you for getting out there already and checking out some participants! Like you, I write under a moniker and my posts range from fiction to humor and lots of life slices in between. At times I write at least a post a day, at other times I get bogged down with work and life and only show up for a bit of writing each week. I wish I had time to do it 24/7! I didn’t start writing fiction until a friend encouraged me to try it a couple years ago. I’ve discovered it’s great fun! Looking forward to seeing you join us in the weeks ahead, don’t wait until April! 🙂 I’m adding you to my reading list so I can enjoy what you have to share!
Thank you for such a warm welcome!! I think my progression will be somewhat like yours – blog a lot; blog a little when bogged down; try some new style of writing once in awhile, and above all Do What I Love and Love What I Do! I have accomplished quite a bit on A to Z, thanks to a couple hours of “good flow” yesterday. Trying not to panic 🙂
Hi Sammy from Perth Western Australia. I am Bev from RefocusFuturePlanning I don’t qualify at all as an introvert. I love meeting people and can talk under water! I am interested in the way boomers on the other side of the world are refocusing on this new stage of our lives. I am finding it a challenge. My partner, also a Vietnam Vet, retired a few years ago to go fishing and within 12 months had set up a very successful landscaping business! He now drives tour buses in remote Western Australia and loves it. I have just started in a part time job working as a business development manager for a friend. I am enjoying the company and stimulation. Today I met three experts in Agricultural Science who are studying communications with communities of interest. I lapped up every word. I miss that sort of interaction.
Bev
Hi – thanks for your nice response. I want to think about your comments and explore your site; will be in touch in a few days because I’m interested in what you have said. Take care!
I thoroughly enjoyed the posts I read. I found you because you found me http://dkatiepowellart.me/, my art blog (zenkatwrites is my writing blog. I am now following you!
Thanks for your nice comments and following. I find your art fascinating. I enjoy following an eclectic group of bloggers because you make me aware of how varied and colorful our artists are. Cheers! Sammy
sounds like we have a lot in common. I am a Boomer as well, and an ex-military wife of 24 years. Hubby and I now live in the Pacific Northwest and enjoy, biking, hiking, gardening and I am an avid genealogist. We have access to a Pickleball court, but haven’t attempted yet…thanks for visiting me.
Gail at Making Life An Art
You’re right, Gail, we do have a lot in common (altho’ my Hub served in Marines before I met him). Thank you and your husband for YOUR service !! Now get out there on that Pickleball court 🙂
Haha! It needs to warm up here a but first!
Oh – we play indoors on “makeshift courts” on the basketball court at the Y. There are new outdoor courts that will be ready this spring. That should be an adventure because a different surface and wind/sun issues. It’s still a fun game for folks who can’t run and move like we used to!
I’ve nominated you for the Sunshine Award. Congrats and keep up the great work 🙂
http://ramblingsonthewall.wordpress.com/2014/04/11/sunshine-award/
Oh, thank you so much; That’s an award I’ve been craving just because the name and logo are so positive!! Can you believe I now have 4 awards I need to do the work on – I just couldn’t stress myself during A to Z, but it will give me plenty to do in May, and I’ve met so many deserving bloggers that I can pay the Awards forward. I really do appreciate you thinking of me!
Absolutely! Can’t wait to read your answers to the questions 🙂 You deserve it!
Hi!
This is off topic but I noticed you signed up to subscribe to my blog and just wanted to let you know that my blog is no longer hosted on WP. It is self hosted and is at http://www.foreignfeasts.com and you have to sign up on the email subscription on my website. I tried to sign you up manually but couldn’t find an email for you. Thank you for your support.
Thanks for letting me know. I’m going to have to (sadly) decline to follow you. It is too difficult to follow blogs via my email and I had to make a decision to stop spending so much time trying to track them so many ways. I wish you well, and will check in manually when I can. Cheers!
Looks like you and I are neighbors. I live just to the east of you. It’s funny that you say “An avid researcher (you name it; I’ve probably googled it)”. My husband always laughs at me, because as soon as a topic of interest comes up I research it, sometimes for days. Last week was owl pellets. Gross, but I had never heard of that, so obviously I had to look it up. Glad to be a part of your blogging community and I look forward to reading more of your posts.
🙂 It’s certainly easier with Google, but even before that I’d find ways to research everything new. I can’t remember anything (“can’t remember shit” syndrome), but it’s sure fascinating while I’m researching it 🙂
It’s amazing what a small world it is. I’ve met about 10 bloggers online who live within 50 miles of Denver. I’d suggest a get-together, but I wonder if y’all are as big an introvert as I am!! I’d get it all arranged, then dread showing up myself !
Same here! I used to love flipping through the encyclopedia. Do they even have those anymore?
I am definitely an introvert. Even after a quick trip to the store, I’m ready to get back home where it’s quiet. I’m not a hermit though. I do go out from time to time. However, I would likely be one of the no-shows. I get nervous meeting new people.
Yup. I’m convinced most bloggers are physically challenged or introverts or both! I can engage face-to-face when I need to but it’s SO MUCH WORK. Thank goodness we have this wonderful blogging medium to socialize in a way that fits and supports. I’ve only been at it 3 months, but I love it.
I almost posted about encyclopedias for my E in A to Z Challenge, but figured readers would find it way too boring in today’s electronic era.
Have a great weekend. I’m off to play a round of golf with my hubby.
Yo, Sammy D (I don’t know why, suddenly your name had a rapper / MC sound to it, so I went with a ‘Yo’ greeting).
It just occurred to me – are you on Twitter? if you are please look me up (@celinejeanjean) as I love chatting with you in the blog comments and I reckon you’d have some awesome tweets that I would want to read 😉
Yo Celine! Yes, i am the 60-year-old white rapper known as The Samster 🙂
I do not have a Twitter account; mainly because I have to tear myself away from all things electronic and have time for active living :-). You and I would be dangerous Twitter companions, for sure !!
OMG – it even rhymes!!!!
Yo Celine!
I’m the 60-year old white rapper
Known as The Samster
Boom shkshk boom *generic boombox rapping noises*
Totally rap lyrics. As a French, white, middleclass woman, I am of course an expert on all things rap, and I declare this rap-tastic.
Shame about Twitter, but probably a good thing. I don’t really need it sucking any more of my life than it already does, and as you say – you and I would be VERY dangerous Twitter buddies! 😉
Boom shkshk boom
Conscious UnTwittering 🙂
Epic.
Although *technically* we were never Twittered in the first place – to be pedantic about it 😉
Hi Sammy; I’m writing here, because I didn’t see a contact form on your blog and I don’t know whether or not you’re on Facebook. Anyway, just wanted to say I’m glad we made a connection during the AtoZChallenge and I’d like to nominate you for a Liebster Award. It’s strictly voluntary, so no pressure to accept, but, if you do, here’s a link to the post:
http://thedogladysden.com/2014/05/28/accolades-and-revelations-the-liebster-award/
Cheers!
Thank you, Debbie! I am very glad I met you as well. Congratulations on your Liebster Award; you are such a supportive part if the blogging community and write such interesting posts yourself. I am honored that you chose me. I will enjoy reading about your other nominees, and will let you know when my acknowledgment post is ready – it’ll be a few weeks but will be a fun one to write!
Thanks and I’m so glad you accepted! 🙂 Looking forward to your post, but there’s no rush whatsoever. It’s a lot of work for one little award. LOL Took me a long time to get mine done.
Yeah, I do a Break-the-Rules response which works better for me – you’ll see eventually :-). Have another one I have to first. I try to keep the spirit of the award and recognition of you and a few bloggers but not spending so much time.
Sounds like you’ve done this before. It was a new experience for me, so I went all out. Probably wouldn’t do it again though. Took forever!
:-). Yeah, i was overwhelmed by the amount of time and decided in future I “do my own thing” when nominated. The awards are nice but I need to focus on my own posts.
Hey, thanks for visiting my blog and liking my Beatles post! Your own blog is very nice, and I look forward to visiting, especially your Baby Boomer posts. All the best!
Thanks for visiting. I read quite a few of your posts and enjoyed them all – it was just too late at night to comment – i was supposed to be sleeping!! Your writing skikss are excellent.
Did you have a pen pal as I child? I did, and loved hearing from someone in another part of the world (Australia). Following a blog is like having a pen pal. Thanks for being one of mine.
You are right; it IS like having a penal! I never thought of it that way. I.”tried” to have a pen pal in grade school when our teacher set us up with “contacts” in Laos of all places. Of course, I never heard from mine. I think I used characters in books as pseudo pen pals -I often thought they were speaking to me or for me or that we were kindred spirits. I guess I still do since I spend far more time with books than people!
Are you and your pen pal still in touch? Ever meet in person? Have you blogged about it? That would be interesting to hear about your letters 🙂
Unfortunately my Australian pen pal wasn’t much for writing, so sadly, not much came from that venture. I’ve had far better luck with “blog pals”.
:-(. I’ve only been blogging since February, and I have met such terrific new friends and been exposed to so many delightful parts of our world. It is a true haven for an introvert like me 🙂 Plus I’ve been in “jaw therapy” since a bike crash last August so person-to-person visits are difficult with my cumbersome mouth brace. The blogging medium fits my social needs perfectly.
My iPad sometimes thinks it knows what I want to say better than I do. It was “a child”, not “I child”.
Hi Sammy! I know you don’t really subscribe to blog awards, but I did want to honor you for being a huge positive force in my blogging experience, and the blogging community. So I’ve nominated you for the Wonderful Team Member Readership Award! It’s entirely up to you (obviously) whether or not you want to accept the award; I will understand either way. Thanks for being you! http://fuzzyundertones.com/2014/07/09/ive-been-honored-with-the-wonderful-team-member-readership-award/ ❤ 😀
You are too kind, dear Marcie. Putting a comment on your post.
Many thanks for visiting Wiseacre Way today Sammy. I enjoy your boomerdom (I can say that, I have it, too), your locale (LOVE Colorado), your humor, dry, and your enthusiasm to keep things flowing. Long may you blog.
Thank you so much! It’s so great to make connections with interesting writers and engaged readers via other bloggers. I look forward to spending some time perusing a few of your prior posts. That’s what the time between midnight and 2am is for, right?!?
Absolutely!
Gosh, we got a two-fer going here. I used to bike 26 miles one way to my job at the Minneapolis Police Department. On Sept. 3rd, I will concluding my career fighting crime when I retire from the Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension. Mind you, I am not a cop. Law Enforcement staffs are divided into two groups: swore and sworn at. I worked in the later.
Thanks for your service! Are your retired retired or moving to another field of work?
I have been wanting to spend my time writing. Beyond that, I’ll be taking care of the chickens.
And cleaning the kitty litter box …
Egads, I wish I had an edit button for that last comment. 😦
LOL I could edit that for you …
Nah-h-h. 🙂
Hi Sammy, I wanted to let you know that I nominated you for the Versatile Blogger Award! If you’d like to accept (it’s completely optional, of course), the details can be found here: http://lorilmaclaughlin.com/2014/09/11/the-versatile-blogger-award. Happy blogging!
The Time I Was Mistaken For a Drug Runner in 3 parts…. And that would be a click and follow!
🙂 thanks, Elen. Coukd be the start if a beautiful friendship!
After our exchange on the Daily Post’s feature about the art of following yesterday, I feel compelled to leave a note, now that I’ve decided to “follow” your blog–I like your approach to life and your breezy writing style! Hope you don’t mind acquiring me as a reader 🙂
Thank you, Sandy! Sorry I ‘forced’ you to leave a comment. 🙂
It’s only that I always click anyone who ‘follows’ to see if I might be mutually interested, only to find they are marketing blogs 99% of the time when they’ve left no comment.
I have discovered so many genuine friends and great blogs that I’m always thrilled to have a new connection. I look forward to visiting your blogsite.
It’s past 1am….. I’ll be back to offer more comments. Am following because I liked what I scanned.
Over the weeken shall explore in depth.
Thank you! Come back any time 😊
Your list of descriptive attributes about yourself above hits home for me: “a boomer with humor.” That’s exactly what I am. I completed a memoir last winter, created a blog in the spring, and have come to understand myself as just that, a boomer with humor. Check out my website – mikeandberg.com – for a little more info about myself, my memoir, and why I relate to you so much. Introversion; technology; athletics, to name only a few of the attributes I have I sense I share with you. Good luck, too, with your emerging website. I look forward to Following it!
Thank you, Mike. I appreciate your interest, and there’s not much better than being able to laugh at what life brings our way. I look forward to visiting your blog.
This comment, meant for you, ended up on Notes from the U.K. It’s from C.E. Robinson (cerobinsonauthor.com).
Sammy D. So glad I read your comment on awards! I just nominated you for the One Lovely Award. I am an avid follower and enjoy your blog posts. And I understand your choice to not accept the award. I tend to agree, it ‘s an award circuit thing and a lot of work to accept. So, as I wrote in the blog post, please keep the thank you and gratitude anyway for following my blog! I’m a new blogger and now I’m 120 emails behind (today) in reading followers posts. For me, the award brought me more followers with creative, interesting blog sites. If this keeps up, I won’t have time to write comments back or more chapters for WIP! Phew! I might be done at one award!
Hey, Sammy. I figured you’d been nominated for the Liebster before but I just enjoyed that recognition at my blog and since I really, really like your blog….well, you’ve been nominated again. I think you know the rules. Congratulations (probably for the umpteenth time)!
Awwww thank you 😋 I always appreciate being recognized with other great bloggers.
Ping! I’ve nominated you for an award, cause you’re real neat and I want everyone to know!
http://jolenemottern.com/2015/05/03/real-neat-thats-me/
Congratulations – you deserve these awards for your prolific writing and for supporting so many bloggers !!
Thanks for passing it along, Joey, I do appreciate it. I’ll put on my push-up bra soon and write an appropriate acceptance speech 😍
It’ll be fun to respond to your questions and make up my own!!
I always enjoy your posts 🙂
Thanks!
Hi Sammy, I just wanted to let you know I nominated you for the Creative Blogger Award! The award is completely optional, but if you choose to accept, the details can be found at http://lorilmaclaughlin.com/2015/06/12/celebrate-the-small-things-the-creative-blogger-award/. Happy Friday!
Thank you, Lori. I appreciate you thinking of me. I most likely won’t accept since I’m negligent on completing a few others. I do try to do my part by shout-outs and referral links in my blogposts.
No worries. Have a great weekend!
I thought you might have coined the phrase “boomer with humor,” so I did a search. I got only a few hits, but one goes back to a classified ad from 2005, which probably precedes your use of the phrase. Still, you could start a rumor about being a consumer who’s the first boomer with humor in Colorado.
OMG you are too funny. I never thought of it as a ‘phrase’ when I wrote that. I’ve been meaning to revise my ‘About’ page for ages. Perhaps I’ll expand the ‘oomer part of it – sort of a Seuss-ical take 😀
I love the “whirls and swirls” in your head. I have those too! As for golfing, I tried it out just before I went through a divorce. Let’s just say it didn’t go well because all I wanted to do is whack that little ball, even on the green. I thought about trying it again now, but as you know, I’m currently having a love affair with the bike. Have a wonderful day and I shall be off to Google “pickleball.” 🙂
Ooh I thought you were going to say whack your soon-to-be-former-husband 😀. Funny you mention choosing biking over golf. We rode long distance for years and always sniffed at golf for taking too much time and little exercise. Then Hub’s son treated him to golf lessons and he fell in love with it. About 4 years ago, we weren’t doing as much riding together (I do a lot by myself) and i decided I should try golf just so we had a shared outdoor activity.
He taught me a few fundamentals and never tries to coach me while we play or nag me to practice. I don’t keep score and never practice but my years of all kinds of sports have made me a decent golfer. The two of us just go out and enjoy the scenery and have a good time being together for hose 4 hours.
Some day you’ll try it 😀
I’ve tagged you in a blog award tag! https://theglitteraficionado.wordpress.com/2015/08/03/the-versatile-blogger-award/
Thank you! I rarely participate in awards but I always appreciate your thoughtfulness. I make a practice of acknowledging and promoting fellow bloggers in the course of my regular posts as an alternative to participating in the award circuit. Thank you again for linking to me; I will go read about your award.
I like that idea actually! It’s great you do that. 🙂
As you become seasoned at blogging you will choose for yourself whether you enjoy the work that awards require or that you’d rather put that effort into ‘your regular programming’. The nice thing is the blogger community accepts lots of choices and variations on how fellow bloggers handle awards.
That makes sense. I’ve been starting to see exactly what you’re talking about as well. 🙂
Sammy, haven’t heard from you in a while. Are you okay?
Hi Damyanti – thank you for checking in with me. I miss my blogging friends terribly, but I had to make a difficult choice to ‘suspend’ my blogging and commenting activities. I just couldn’t keep up with so many hours in front of a computer. I am still (hand) writing and doing lots of art & photography, but I’m staying away from computers and social media. 😊. I DO still read many blogs (including yours) but I have cut my online time to a minimum.
I hope you are well, and I think of you often 💖
Thanks for responding, and good to know you’re doing well. I’ve been drowning in work, and meaning to ask after you, but haven’t managed all these weeks. I hope we stay in touch, and all the best with your art and writing.
Damyanti, trust me when I say (with the hindsight of a 65-year-old retiree) that when your ‘work life’ has ended, you will look back on it and wonder why you allowed yourself to be so stressed by it. Give yourself permission to let a few more ‘must do’s’ fall through the cracks.
I promise I won’t completely disappear and will check in with you. I am looking forward to reading all the ambitious daily April posts 😉
My work life and the life of my dreams is the same, so I don’t mind it all that much :D. I’m doing posts on a nonprofit I support, no fiction this time 🙂
